Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin (モンスターハンターストーリー2：破滅の翼|Monsutāhantāsutōrī 2: Hametsu no tsubasa) is a role-playing game in the Monster Hunter series, developed and produced by Capcom for the Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam). It is a sequel to Monster Hunter Stories and was released in July 9th, 2021.[1][2]

Plot[]
The story begins with the mass disappearance of Rathalos around the world. As the descendant of the legendary Rider named Red, the player character will have a fateful encounter with a white-haired wyverian girl, who has been entrusted with a Rathalos egg.
Development[]
On September 17, 2020, Nintendo revealed the game during a Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase.[3] This was then followed up with more info during the Monster Hunter direct on the same day.[4] More information was revealed during the 2020 Tokyo Game Show.[5] Wings of Ruin also have compatibility with Monster Hunter Rise.[6][7]
Capcom stated that the "huge respone" from the players of the previous game made the sequel possible to happen.[8]
Release[]
The game was released worldwide on the Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows on July 9, 2021.[9][10] A set of three Amiibo figures (Ena, Razewing Ratha and Tsukino) launched on the same day. To commemorate the release, a collectable Spirit was added to the crossover game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
A PlayStation 4 port was announced on March 11, 2024 and scheduled to release on June 14, 2024, the same day the game launch along with the remastered version of Monster Hunter Stories at the same time.[11]

Sales[]
According to Famitsu, the Nintendo Switch version of the game sold 137,676 copies at retail to rank as the best-selling game in Japan in its week of release.[12] In the United Kingdom, Monster Hunter Stories 2 debuted in third place, reportedly selling more than twice what the original game had done in its first week.[13] In the United States, NPD Group reported that the game ranked as the third best selling release of the month, with sales tripling that of the previous entry's lifetime sales.[14][15] It topped the global Steam charts in its first week, setting a new peak player count for a Japanese role-playing game's launch on the platform, surpassing Persona 4 Golden.[16][17]
On July 2021, the game was reported to have sold more than one million units worldwide.[18] In the US, Monster Hunter Stories 2's already outsold the original game on 3DS on its launch month.[19] On January 2022, sales exceeded 1.4 million copies.[20] In May 2022, Capcom confirmed that the game had sold 1.5 million copies.[21]
