Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin (モンスターハンターストーリー2:破滅の翼|Monsutāhantāsutōrī 2: Hametsu no tsubasa) is an upcoming role-playing game in the Monster Hunter series, developed and produced by Capcom for the Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam). It is a sequel to Monster Hunter Stories and released in July 9th, 2021.[1][2]

Plot[]

The story begins with the mass disappearance of Rathalos around the world. As the descendant of the legendary Rider named Red, the player character will have a fateful encounter with a white-haired wyverian girl, who has been entrusted with a Rathalos egg.

Development[]

On September 17, 2020, Nintendo revealed the game during a Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase.[3] This was then followed up with more info during the Monster Hunter direct on the same day.[4] More information was revealed during the 2020 Tokyo Game Show.[5] Wings of Ruin will also have compatibility with Monster Hunter Rise.[6][7]

Capcom stated that the "huge respone" from the players of the previous game made the sequel possible to happen.[8]

Release[]

The game was released worldwide on the Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows on July 9, 2021.[9][10] A set of three Amiibo figures (Ena, Razewing Ratha and Tsukino) launched on the same day. To commemorate the release, a collectable Spirit was added to the crossover game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Sales[]

On July 2021, the game was reported to have sold more than one million units worldwide.[11] In the US, Monster Hunter Stories 2's already outsold the original game on 3DS on its launch month.[12]
