Miles Edgeworth, known as Reiji Mitsurugi in Japan, is a main character in the Ace Attorney series of adventure visual novel games.

Story[]

The most known of Phoenix Wright's rival prosecutors, Edgeworth became a prosecutor at the age of 20. His father was a famous defense attorney. As a child, Edgeworth aspired to become one, too. However, for reasons explained in the "Turnabout Goodbyes" case of the first game, he becomes a prosecutor instead. He witnessed a case where he believed the alleged killer got off free, instead of being imprisoned. This forever shaped his overall outlook on life.

Manfred von Karma was his mentor. Through him, Edgeworth learned how to use dirty tricks to rig the court in his favor and became known as the "demon prosecutor" who always gets his "guilty" verdict. Mia Fey, followed by Phoenix Wright, hand him his first losses in court. He changes face drastically after facing Wright, stating in the fourth case of the second game that "Our job is to find the truth".

Edgeworth shares a strong working relationship with police detective Dick Gumshoe, who has a strong loyalty to the prosecutor.

Edgeworth also shares a sibling bond to his former mentor's daughter, Franziska von Karma.

During "Bridge to the Turnabout", the fifth case in the third game, Wright is hospitalized, and Edgeworth takes over for him as defence attorney for the first trail in the case. This is the first and only time in the Phoenix Wright games that Edgeworth is available as a playable character.

Miles Edgeworth returns in the fifth main game, Dual Destinies. By the time the game takes place, Edgeworth is the current Chief Prosecutor.

Other appearances[]

Miles Edgeworth is also featured in his "own" game, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and the sequel Gyakuten Kenji 2 where he is the main protagonist.

Cameo Appearances[]

Miles Edgeworth appears as a card in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS and in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's Heroes and Heralds Mode.

Edgeworth and Wright both have a cameo in She-Hulk's ending in Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.

Edgeworth makes a cameo appearance in Project X Zone 2.
