Hideyoshi as he appears in Sengoku BASARA 2.

Hideyoshi Toyotomi is a character from the Sengoku BASARA series. In the game Sengoku BASARA 2, he is a gigantic man that fights with his bare hands in battle. He is also a rival of Nobunaga. Hanbei Takenaka is his protector and unquestioning friend, though sometimes this could be merely because they are both fighting on the same side. His weapons are gauntlets and his element is light.

Believing that being in love would hinder him on the battlefield, Hideyoshi killed his own companion Nene. This was before his historic rise to power. Keiji reminds him that a man's love for a woman is what makes him stronger. Undeterred, Hideyoshi replied, "That's because you don't know what true love is! You don't know about the weakness that love exposes within yourself!"

His Special Item in Sengoku BASARA 2 is the Comrade's Gauntlet, which enables Hideyoshi to grab friendly as well as enemy soldiers.

Apparently, Hideyoshi meets his death at the beginning of Sengoku BASARA: Samurai Heroes at the hands of Ieyasu Tokugawa, which drives his ally Mitsunari Ishida insane with thoughts of revenge.

Historical Information[]

Hideyoshi grew up as a peasant without a last name. He joined the Oda army and rose to the rank of general. He was Nobunaga's right hand man, and was a clever and capable general. After Nobunaga's death at Honnō-ji, he rushed to Mitsuhide Akechi, in order to avenge his lord and seize control of the land. He did so within a week.

He went through numerous name changes from Tokichiro Kinoshita to Hideyoshi Hashiba to Hideyoshi Toyotomi. He is the second of "The Three Unifiers of Japan".

  • Despite being depicted as a giant in the Sengoku BASARA series, the real-life Hideyoshi is often depicted in Japanese history as a small to average-sized man with a monkey-like appearance; the Hideyoshi from the Onimusha series is depicted this way.
