Chris Redfield is one of the main protagonists of the Resident Evil series of survival horror games published by Capcom.

Biography[]

Profile[]

He was a member of the Special Tactics And Rescue Service and served as Alpha Team's point man. As a former member of the United States Air Force, he is also an experienced fighter pilot. He is the older brother of Claire Redfield and a current member of the BSAA where he, Jill and nine others co-founded the organization. In Resident Evil 6, he serves as an Special Operations Unit captain of the BSAA. He was voiced by Scott McCulloch in the first Resident Evil followed by Michael Filpowich in Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Joe Whyte in the Nintendo GameCube remake of the original title. Roger Craig Smith voices Chris in Resident Evil 5 until Revelations 2 where he is a playable character in Raid Mode. In the movie, Resident Evil: Vendetta and the upcoming movie Resident Evil: Death Island, he is voiced by Kevin Dorman who previously voiced him in Umbrella Chronicles and for motion capturing Leon S. Kennedy in the movie Resident Evil: Damnation and Piers Nivans in Resident Evil 6. In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, he is voiced by David Vaughn. Jeff Schine, the voice actor of Carlos Oliveira in the remake version of Resident Evil 3, voices Chris in Resident Evil: Village.

Appearance[]

Chris was developed to be the typical "tough guy" type, commonly found in action movies: spiked hair, bare muscular build and likes combat knives. The color of his hair is naturally brown in some FMV scenes and his CGI appearance from the current games until the end of Resident Evil 6.

In the original Resident Evil, Chris wears the standard uniform of S.T.A.R.S. His clothing consists of a white t-shirt underneath a green Vietnam War era M69 flak vest (the vest features a knife case at the left breast), gray pants, holster, knee-pads and black combat boots. The uniform did not show any change in the REmake of the game and was also used in the "Mansion Incident" scenario, from Umbrella Chronicles. Although in Resident Evil 5, Chris wears this outfit, as an extra costume, with a minor alteration. Instead of the original white t-shirt, Chris now wears a white button down dress shirt, with the sleeves rolled up into small cuffs. In the FMV scenes and the ending, the color of his pants is blue and his white shirt is covered in dirt and it was not seen without the green flak vest. In Jill's scenario of both the original version and the REmake, it is implied that Wesker somehow managed to capture him and locked him up at the prison in the Arklay Laboratory around the time Jill and Barry went to investigate the Tea Room for a gunshot.

In Chris' Resident Evil 3: Nemesis epilogue, he wears a white shirt with a brown jacket, the same alternative outfit from the original Resident Evil. The back of his jacket has the same Made in Heaven logo as his sister, Claire, has on the back of her vest in Resident Evil 2.

In Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, Chris' hair becomes dark brown in his CGI appearance and gains two fringes in the center of his head while in the FMV and the reimagined Game of Oblivion, his hair remains black minus the two fringes. His eyes in his in-game appearance are dark blue eyes, while in the FMV cutscenes, his eyes are naturally brown.

He wears a variation of his S.T.A.R.S. uniform. It consists of a green button down dress shirt (with sleeves rolled up into small cuffs) with an R.P.D. - S.T.A.R.S. black vest, green pants and black boots. The vest has a large S.T.A.R.S. logo on the back. The outfit is later seen in the Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles scenario, "Game of Oblivion" and as his alternate outfit in Resident Evil REmake.

In the epilogue of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, Chris' green button down dress shirt that he wears remains the same as he wears blue jeans with a brown belt and black shoes. This is his casual outfit where he reluctantly goes with his younger sister, Claire after the incident.

In the Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles scenario, "Umbrella's End," Chris wears winter attire that consists of a white coat, black gloves, green M69 flak vest, white pants and black combat boots. The knife sheath is now on the right leg, and in its place on the vest, there is a walkie-talkie radio. (This costume can be used in Darkside Chronicles if unlocked under special requirements, along with a non-canon Sheriff's costume).

In Resident Evil: Revelations, Chris's hair is now brown and he gains small bangs on his head. This hairstyle is also used in Resident Evil 5.

He first appears wearing winter tactical gear and a white beanie hat. Later in the game, he wears his standard uniform of BSAA (very similar to the uniforms used by Josh Stone and Dan DeChant), previously seen in the Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition scenario, "Lost in Nightmares" as the color of his outfit is black and green.

In "Lost in Nightmares" Chris now wears a white down button down dress shirt (with sleeves rolled up into small cuffs) with a light green flak vest, khaki pants with green knee pads on each side of his knees and brown combat boots. He also wears black fingerless gloves and a radio with a headset.

In Resident Evil 5, Chris is initially seen in a casual safari outfit at the beginning of the game. After finding Reynard Fisher, Chris removes the safari jacket and puts on his military equipment. Chris is seen in the standard attire for the BSAA: green shirt with logos of the BSAA on both sleeves, a large sheath for his machete on the back, radio with a headset, black gloves, a flashlight on his belt, PDA, holster on the right leg, knee-pads and green shoes. Later, the player can equip him with the Melee vest and/or the Bulletproof vest. Extra costumes include the S.T.A.R.S., Safari, Warrior, and Heavy Metal

In Resident Evil 6, Chris' hair is brown and was cut into a military style haircut. But in his intro and his ending, his hair appears to be dark brown.

During the Edonia, Eastern Europe section, Chris wears a winter BSAA uniform featuring a gray, long-sleeved shirt, matching pants, black combat boots, and a green bulletproof vest.

During the Lanshiang, China section, he wears an outfit similar to his Resident Evil 5 attire, albeit with different boots, gloves and a slightly different shirt.

He wears a blue green and khaki shirt with logos of the BSAA on both sleeves with a light green flak combat vest with several pockets on front, camouflage pants with brown gun holsters on each side of his thighs, green knee pads on both knees and brown combat boots.

When meeting with Piers at the bar and in his epilogue, he was seen wearing a black trench coat with a black turtleneck undershirt, gray pants and black shoes.

In Resident Evil: Vendetta, Chris has small full bangs on his head and a facial beard.

His outfit in the movie is his Lanshiang outfit in Resident Evil 6 but in a minor color change. His shirt is now light blue green and gray with a black sleeveless turtleneck underneath, his light green flak combat vest is darker, his knee pads are white, his pants are gray and his combat boots are black.

In the movie, Resident Evil: Death Island, Chris is initially seen in his Lanshiang outfit in Resident Evil 6 while he and his BSAA team including his long-time partner, Jill Valentine had investigated the zombie outbreak in San Francisco, California. His BSAA shirt are now in a shades of teal. In his visit to the Alcatraz Island alongside Jill and his sister, Claire, he wears a gray short sleeved open hawaiian button-up shirt with a blue gray short sleeved fitted shirt underneath, greenish khaki cargo jeans with a dark gray belt around his waist and reddish brown shoes. He also wears a silver sports watch on his left wrist. He later removes his hawaiian button-up shirt when they finally fought the zombies during the ambush caused by Dylan inside the penitentiary at Alcatraz Island despite saving the tourists who happens to be infected by the T-Virus from a mosquito bite.

In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Chris' hair remains dark brown and has spiky ends on his forehead. He wears an outfit similar to his BSAA winter attire in Resident Evil 6; his long sleeved shirt is dark green, his bulletproof vest is black with several pouches where he keeps his grenades, his military pants are now black with matching gun holsters where he keeps his handguns and black combat boots. He also adorned a green military combat helmet mixed with a black oxygen mask to make him breathe and to avoid being contaminated. He would use the oxygen tank to restore his breathing from his oxygen mask.

In the Resident Evil: Village, Chris regains his hairstyle and facial beard from the movie Resident Evil: Vendetta. His hair is now dark brown as the lighting effect in the beginning shows his hair being grayish brown. He also has small wrinkles on his eyebags due to his present age.

His main outfit in the game is his casual attire in Resident Evil 6 but it was entirely black. The collar of his black trench coat is large and his pants are now black to match up his outfit. He is now equipped with black gloves. Later when he is a playable character and assisting Ethan after he had defeated Miranda, Chris removes his trench coat and the sleeves from his black turtleneck are fitted. He was equipped with an olive green shoulder holster where he keeps his heavy firearms, grenades and a radio signal. He also has a radio mic at the right side of his head.

Personality[]

Chris is close to his friends and family, specifically with his younger sister Claire and his partner Jill Valentine, whom he would both willingly give his life to protect. He also establishes bonds with the people he works with, respects (Rebecca Chambers and Albert Wesker for example) or admires. He cares deeply for the life of innocents, something which caused him to argue with his superiors in the military. Chris has a long-standing friendship with Barry Burton, who was an old friend of Chris' family. Barry was the one who recruited Chris for the Special Tactics And Rescue Service after Chris had left the Air Force and began drifting.

Serving as Point Man in S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, Chris earned the trust of his comrades. In particular, Chris developed a close friendship with Jill Valentine, the only female member of S.T.A.R.S. at the time.

Forest Speyer, the sharpshooter of the S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team, was once a great friend (and rival) of Chris, until the Mansion Incident in 1998, where Forest was brutally killed and turned into a zombie.

After the Mansion Incident, Chris became obsessed with the Umbrella Corporation, seeking information to bring the company down and avenge the deaths of his friends. Later, Chris and Jill formed a lethal organization to combat Umbrella together, the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, aka, the BSAA.

Formerly, during his activity in S.T.A.R.S., Chris exhibited great respect for the S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team leader, Albert Wesker, who recognised Chris as his most skilled team member. However, since Chris ruined, or at least delayed Wesker's plans at the Spencer mansion, a powerful grudge formed between them. Their encounters thereafter were always intense and violent.

During the Il Veltro incident, Chris was shown to be a generic and a typical "soldier", focusing only on the mission and disregarding his partner Jessica's advances. When asked by her whether he trusted her or not, he remarked "Trust is measured by actions, not words" to which Jessica replies "That's so like you, Chris. It's always about the job, isn't it?" Chris holds a level of professionalism; he never once berated Jessica for her flirting and simply focused on the mission. But, when Jill was in danger, he promptly switched his focus entirely into rescuing her.

During a BSAA mission to capture Ozwell E. Spencer, Jill sacrificed herself to save Chris from Wesker, while he was unable to protect Jill. Jill's perceived death was a very serious blow to Chris personally. Ever since that encounter, he became distant and cold-hearted. It also psychologically scarred him such as when Wesker opened the cargo door in the Stealth Bomber's cargo bay and Sheva Alomar was almost pulled out of the aircraft to her death. During the confrontation in the cargo bay of the bomber, Chris had a flashback of Jill's supposed death and how he was unable to do anything to protect Jill. This made him impulsively/instinctively endanger himself to not repeat the same mistake with Sheva.

In RE5 proper, Chris is initially shown to have a cold acceptance towards most of the grisly circumstances presented in the mission and shows little concern for its location or who he'll be working with.

Immediately after meeting Sheva, she asks him if he would "rather be in America than in a place like this".

Chris dismisses the notion, noting that America "has its own dark side". Sheva notes his lack of patriotism, and Chris merely states that he's a realist, noting that America is "a capitalist society" and that "not everyone is cut out for that kind of pressure". He considers that there are opportunities to be had, but as far as he sees it, "at a price". "If you gain, someone else loses."

When Sheva points out that he doesn't sound like any American that she's ever met, he responds with "The great thing about Americans is that we're all different".

Following the battle with the first Uroboros B.O.W. he and Sheva encountered, Chris mentions that if they had arrived sooner to assist DeChant and the rest of the Delta Team, they would've most likely been dead as well. A substantial part of his driving force during this time is seeking out Jill after he receives intel. The possibility that she might still be alive. Sheva has doubts about his "personal stake" in the mission, but later appreciates how much he cares for his old partner. With this, Sheva developed a close bond with Chris, deciding to stay and fight right alongside him to help him save Jill and takedown Wesker.

In episode one of the Resident Evil 5 viral campaign, entitled 'Ceremony', Chris is about to receive an award for his courageous performance in Kijuju, but is hindered from delivering his speech by a sudden onset of violent memories from his mission.

This could be considered as an indicator of post-traumatic stress disorder, which could plague Chris after the events of Resident Evil 5.

Chris's reactions to the various threats he has faced, vary over the years and change with his experience.

During his initial encounters with zombies and B.O.W.s in the Spencer Mansion, he was angered that it was all set up by Wesker (though in truth, the outbreak was caused by James Marcus; Wesker simply took advantage of the situation).

Following the events at Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Facility, Chris begins to categorize people like Albert Wesker into simple criminal personalities, refusing to acknowledge their views and immediately dismissing them as evil.

This is most apparent during his first encounter with Sergei Vladimir, where he refers to him as "another Umbrella psycho", despite the latter's various machinations since before the Mansion incident.

Chris then views Wesker's world plan in Kijuju with the same disdain. After he and Sheva board Wesker's stealth bomber, he is even sarcastic about the serious implications of Wesker's ambitions, going so far as to mock Wesker for taking his plans from "comic book villains" and dismissing him as "just another of Umbrella's leftovers."

By the time Wesker was killed, Chris is confident that living in a world without fear is worth fighting for, and the cause of fighting bioterrorism exceeds all personal costs.

During the events of Resident Evil 6, Chris shows deep concern for his comrades and men. He is very quick to assure rookie BSAA operative, Finn Macauley, that his teammates have his back and that "No one gets left behind." He shows his anger when his men die in the line of duty. This was further shown when Leon S. Kennedy prevents him from stopping the woman in the blue dress, with Chris angrily stating "I lost all my men because of her!". Despite this and the fact that he and Leon hadn't interacted much in person, he did seem to respect Leon highly, as Leon was the only one able to snap Chris out of his vengeful rampage. During the events in Lanshiang, Chris's focus was entirely on catching Carla, and his reckless pursuit of her cost the lives of several of his men. Chris calmed down somewhat after being confronted by his second in command, Piers Nivans and regained most of his composure after his heated standoff with Leon. Due to the many years of battles against Umbrella's legacy, Chris revealed his intention to retire from duty to his partner, stating that he "cannot let this war follow him". Chris resolved that his final mission would be to rescue Jake, and asked that Piers take his place, despite his partner's lack of confidence in his ability to succeed him. When confronting Jake Muller for the first time in Edonia, he notices something familiar about him, noting the features of Albert Wesker. Months later when saving him from the Underwater facility, he learns that Jake is the son of Albert Wesker and mentions to Jake that he was the one to kill his father and allows Jake to fire at him for killing his father. Jake misses the shot on purpose and states that there are more important things at stake. When asked by Piers why he revealed such information to Jake, Chris to Jake had every right to know what happened to his father, no matter what grudge he had against Wesker.

At the end of Chris's campaign in Resident Evil 6, Piers Nivans, his second in command, sacrificed his life for him, by injecting himself with the vial containing the C-Virus that they retrieved from Carla to save Chris from HAOS. After HAOS's assumed defeat, Chris attempts to escape the facility with Piers into an escape pod, but Piers refuses and pushes Chris into the escape pod, having slipped his B.S.A.A. patch over to Chris without him noticing earlier. Getting up and seeing that Piers had shut the door, Chris ordered him to open the door, but Piers didn't follow his orders. As the escape pod was sent out into the sea, Chris observed as the underwater facility was collapsing, leading to HAOS being freed from the facility. HAOS clutched onto Chris' escape pod but was electrocuted by a powerful jolt of electricity, similar to the ability Piers gained from the C-Virus, suggesting that he had saved Chris once again. As the only surviving member of his team by the conclusion of the Lanshiang Incident, Chris, still shaken by the deaths of his soldiers, decides to continue his fight against the bioterrorism to honour his fallen comrades and Piers's great sacrifice.

In the events of Resident Evil: Vendetta, Chris maintains his personality from Resident Evil 6 but has become very determined to protect and rescue his comrades, including Rebecca Chambers. He even consoles Leon, who had also lost his comrades during a mission.

In Resident Evil: Death Island, Chris became more concerned towards Jill who is guilt over hurting her comrades after being freed from Wesker's control and her rehabilitation as well as her actions during their missions in San Francisco. During their trip in Alcatraz Island after saving Antonio Taylor who poses as Tony Davis, Chris has a fatherly streak to his sister, Claire when she was mad at Antonio for calling TerraSave as terrorists. Chris also displays his brave and determination while siding with both Leon and Jill in battling the mutated Dylan.

In Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Chris assists the protagonist Ethan Winters by providing him with the gun to eliminate Eveline as well as retaining his skills during his confrontation with the mutated Lucas Baker.

In Resident Evil: Village, It is apparent that Chris's personality has dramatically changed, changing his role from being a hero to being an anti-hero, shown as he and his men infiltrated the Winters Family's residence and mercilessly killed "Mia Winters" by shooting her multiple times with a suppressed gun as well as letting Ethan witness Chris take his infant daughter Rosemary Winters away from him. Chris acts cold and serious when one of his men brings Ethan to him, who angrily states that Chris killed "Mia" and that he should kill him as well and "finish the job". Attempting to explain the situation to Ethan, Chris is interrupted by "Canine" ( Dion Wilson ) who informs him of the serious motion readings nearby and suggests that they should move on. After a brief conversation with Canine, they are attacked by a mutated fish which comes from Salvadore Moreau. It is later revealed that the "Mia" Chris shot in the beginning had been Miranda in disguise. He also finally explains to Ethan why his group had taken Rose away, seeing that Miranda was targeting both Ethan and Rose. When Ethan was mortally incapacitated by Miranda, Chris transitions back to being a hero and learns from his mistakes and carelessness, leading him to rescue the real Mia Winters and assisting Ethan in fighting the mutated Miranda. However he was saddened and upset when Ethan sacrifices himself by activating the bomb he stole from him to make their escape and to save his wife and daughter but also displays his disappointment when he learns that the BSAA had sent soldiers who were actually B.O.Ws, leading his decision to get through the BSAA Headquarters in Europe.

Story[]

Note: This section is in need of a major grammar cleanup.

Chris joined the United States Air Force around age seventeen, serving as a pilot and marksman. In addition to flying fighter planes, he demonstrated outstanding firearms handling and was trained rigorously in hand-to-hand and knife combat and took part in missions overseas. He had been described by his commanding officers as "uncompromising", "possessing unwavering dedication" and having a "high level of adaptability". However, Chris was constantly coming into direct conflict with his superiors. Unable to settle these disputes, he chose the path of early retirement at around 23–24 years of age.

After leaving the Air Force, Chris started drifting across the U.S. and eventually got to Raccoon City. There he met his old comrade, Barry Burton. Barry suggested that he try out for the new S.T.A.R.S. force of which he had recently joined, an elite unit mostly composed of ex-military personnel, created to quell the increase in the number of terrorism. Thinking he may as well give it a try, Chris applied for S.T.A.R.S. and was immediately accepted. Along with Barry, Chris was recruited into the lead Alpha Team with Albert Wesker as captain.

He served as both a point man (PM) as well as Alpha team's co-pilot. He was known for his marksmanship ability (for which he had a friendly rivalry with Bravo team member Forest Speyer and received numerous commendations for). It was here that he also met his future partner and closest friend: Jill Valentine.

Resident Evil[]

On July 24, 1998, Alpha team was sent to the Arklay Mountains on the outskirts of Raccoon City to investigate the sudden disappearance of their compatriots, Bravo team. While walking through the forest, they discovered the remains of Bravo team's helicopter, along with the mutilated corpse of their pilot Kevin Dooley. Suddenly, while investigating the quiet woods, Alpha team member Joseph Frost was attacked by an infected dog with the rest of the pack following, eating him alive. Jill witnessed this and began firing, but was so shocked at the sight she failed to realize her gun had run out of ammo, and she continued to pull the trigger. One of the dogs noticed her watching and ran towards her. Chris gunned down the dog and took a hold of Jill telling her to run.

With Alpha team on high alert, they ran through the forest to the landing zone, only to find their pilot, Brad Vickers, flying away in terror. To buy the others time, Chris turned and braced himself as a dog leaped at him. However, Wesker shot it out of the air and ordered Chris and Jill to follow him. Spotting a mansion in the distance, the four remaining officers ran towards it, shooting at the infected dogs. Finally, they entered the seemingly deserted mansion for cover.

Throughout the night, Chris worked through the Mansion in search of life, combating numerous creatures, and ran into two surviving members of Bravo team, Rebecca Chambers, and Richard Aiken. Chris then ran into Wesker while investigating the mansion residence who told Chris that he and Jill were separated earlier.

Making his way to the caves beneath the Mansion, Chris finds a wounded Enrico Marini, Bravo team's captain, who informed Chris that there was a traitor among the group, also proceeding to threaten him at gunpoint under the belief that Chris was the traitor in question, before being shot dead by Wesker, the actual traitor. Chris then discovers an underground laboratory used for making Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) and also finds out that Wesker was one of the leading researchers. He finds Wesker, who confirms that he lured S.T.A.R.S. to the mansion to use their combat with the B.O.W.s as data for further research. Wesker shoots Rebecca and releases a monster called Tyrant from its slumber. It impales Wesker with its claw, apparently killing him, and then immediately turns to attack Chris, but he manages to take it down. Rebecca survived the gunshot due to her bulletproof vest and ran ahead to activate the self-destruct sequence she had found. With it activated, Chris focused his attention on finding Jill. Running through the lab, he found that Wesker had locked her in a cell. After rescuing her, they both ran to the roof to await Brad's rescue (Brad had earlier made contact with the team and had decided to return for them). Rebecca joined them on the roof, but before Brad could land, the Tyrant had emerged from the floor and began to attack. After a few seconds of Chris dodging the monster, Brad found and threw down a rocket launcher, which Chris immediately shot at and destroyed the Tyrant.

Chris, Jill, and Rebecca boarded the chopper and escaped the Mansion. Barry also managed to escape, either being already in the chopper or escaping via other means. The mansion then exploded, taking any remaining monsters and evidence with it.

After their ordeal, Chris, along with Jill and Rebecca were treated at the Raccoon General Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had sustained no permanent injuries.

After recovering from their wounds, the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members made a number of attempts to report Umbrella to the authorities, but all attempts failed due to the corporation's bribing of the Raccoon City Police Department's chief Brian Irons. While the public were disturbed by the events, they continued to purchase Umbrella's products. Eventually, due to the threat of exposure, Irons had the S.T.A.R.S. team disbanded before they discovered too much and replaced them with a more standard S.W.A.T. team.

Chris decided to dig up some information on Irons secretly and requested that the Federal Bureau of Investigation carry out an investigation into the Raccoon City Police Department and Irons himself. To cover his tracks and keep Irons from suspecting anything, Chris displayed extensive aggressiveness, once punching fellow officer Elrand in the face for spilling coffee on him by accident. Jill, unaware of Chris's intentions, tried to stop him, but he simply winked at her then walked away. He was later suspended for "vacation".

Chris began investigating Umbrella alone, telling nobody, not even Jill. When he finally did tell her after inviting her to his apartment and showed her reports on the G-virus, she was determined not to let Chris fight Umbrella on his own and called Barry for extra backup. The three of them set out to uncover as much info on Umbrella as they could, but Chris knew that their best bet was to travel to Umbrella's main headquarters, in Europe. Jill agreed that she will continue trying to find more information in Raccoon City before joining Chris, and Barry promised to follow after getting his family to safety. Chris opted against telling his sister anything to avoid putting her in harm's way, but this decision had the opposite effect.

Resident Evil 2[]

Claire, during the Raccoon City Destruction Incident, would find the fax reply to Chris's requested investigation of Irons. She had come looking for her brother whose last known whereabouts were in Raccoon City. The fax would reveal that although they tried to find incriminating evidence regarding the G-virus, no evidence confirmed its existence. However, they did find that chief Irons was hiding a dark past and may or may not be taking bribes. Claire determined that Umbrella had a facility in Paris and believed Chris may have gone there. Claire indeed traveled to the Paris facility but found that it was not Chris' destination. She was discovered snooping around, and after almost destroying their own base trying to catch her, Umbrella caught and sent her to Rockfort Island, an isolated prison run by Umbrella.

Chris is a playable character in Resident Evil 2's Extreme Battle Mode.

Resident Evil CODE: Veronica[]

Chris is a playable character in the second half of the game after finishing the first half of the game where his sister, Claire is playable.

While in Europe investigating Umbrella's activities, Chris' own activities made him a wanted target for Umbrella. This is what helped Leon S. Kennedy in tracking him down. Leon, a friend of Claire's after they cooperated to escape Raccoon City, was e-mailed by Claire asking him to find Chris. He passed on Claire's message for help, prompting Chris to abandon his mission and head to Rockfort Island.

Arriving at Rockfort Island, Chris infiltrated it undetected by climbing the outer walls. He met Rodrigo Juan Raval, who told Chris about Claire's presence on the island. Rodrigo was soon attacked and swallowed by the Gulp Worm, a large worm creature. Chris fought and killed the monster, which spat Rodrigo back out. Before he died, Rodrigo gave Chris a lighter, which Claire had given him in gratitude for releasing her and told Chris that Claire may already have left Rockfort Island.

While searching the island, Chris found the answers that he had originally been looking for when he had come to Europe. What he hadn't anticipated, however, was the return of his former captain. Albert Wesker had mysteriously survived their encounter in the Arklay mountains during the Mansion Incident several months ago and now carried a strong vendetta against Chris.

They had a brief scuffle, in which Wesker easily overpowered Chris using his inhuman strength, Wesker revealed to Chris that Claire was in Antarctica, at another secret Umbrella research base.

After following Claire to the Antarctic base, he found her unconscious in a replica of Spencer's Mansion. Wesker himself traveled to the base in pursuit of Alexia Ashford, who possessed the last remaining sample of the t-Veronica virus. Chris and Claire's reunion was brief, as they were separated when Claire departed to find the fellow prisoner Steve Burnside, who she had been cooperating with.

Chris watched Wesker and a mutated Alexia fight after he demanded she hand over the Veronica virus but was forced to deal with her himself when Wesker fled the scene. Chris brought her down temporarily.

After Steve's death, Chris activated the self-destruct system of the base and met his sister once again. They attempted to escape, but Alexia reappeared and tried to stop them. Chris and Claire activated a special weapon, known as the Linear Launcher, but the weapon needed time to charge. Chris told Claire to wait for him at the Harrier jet while he dealt with Alexia. Claire reluctantly agreed, but Alexia tried to attack her. Chris shot Alexia, whose body responded by mutating into an arthropod monster. Claire ran away, and Chris battled Alexia. During the fight, Alexia left her cocoon body and transformed into a dragonfly. The Linear Launcher finally recharged and, with only one shot, Chris was able to finish her off.

When the base began to crumble, Chris chased after Wesker, who had taken Claire hostage. After some talk, Wesker released Claire, claiming that it was Chris he wanted and that killing him was better than completing his mission of acquiring the t-Veronica virus. Chris also learned that Wesker planned to extract the t-Veronica virus from Steve Burnside's corpse, and reacted with disgust at Wesker's implication of planning to resurrect Steve from the dead. Chris ordered Claire to wait at the jet. Chris and Wesker then engaged in combat, and Chris was beaten up by Wesker, who proclaimed that his new superhuman abilities were well worth not being human anymore.

Chris utilized some hanging girders which fell on Wesker. The fight was eventually interrupted by the imminent destruction of the facility. Wesker promised that the next time they met, it would be the last. Chris left for the jet. With the base literally exploding behind him, he emerged from the elevator and was blown across the room, landing on the nose of the jet. Chris piloted the jet and escaped the facility as it self-destructed. Claire asked him to promise he won't go off and leave her alone again, but Chris said that he had to put a stop to Umbrella for good.

After this incident, Chris is reunited with Jill, who had previously escaped Raccoon City with Barry Burton. She had arrived at Chris ransacked apartment and found only his knife on the floor. Jill set off to find Chris, who also took action to find her. Together they joined an anti-Umbrella and bio-weapon task-force. They designated themselves partners, working only with each other, and for the next five years, they did everything they could to try and expose Umbrella, but always wound up at a dead end.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles[]

In the game, there is one last scenario featuring Chris called "Umbrella's End", which takes place in 2003 before Resident Evil 4.

Five years later, in 2003, Chris and Jill had now focused their lives on exposing and destroying Umbrella. During their investigation, they heard reports of mutant wolves attacking in the Caucasus region. Upon arrival at the nearby village, they were attacked by zombies. After clearing them out, they investigated the town, eventually finding a little girl named Anna hiding inside her house. She described to them the wolves attacking and spreading the infection, her mother turning, and her father hiding her in a closet. She also told them how the adults often gathered at the silo. Chris and Jill figured that if there were any other survivors, they would have hidden themselves in the silo. Entering the silo they found it deserted, except for the corpse of the village chief, seemingly frozen to death in the refrigerator. They discovered that he froze to death to escape the zombies which quickly set down upon them. The three of them tried to run outside but found the door blocked from the outside. Before they were overwhelmed, Chris shot at the flour packages lining the walls and created an explosion. After they narrowly escaped the dust explosion by hiding in the fridge, Chris and Jill exited the silo to find Wesker outside, who proceeded to congratulate Chris on his "dumb luck".

Chris accused Wesker of being behind the events of the village, but Wesker insisted that it was nothing more than an accident. He then told them that the village was "cursed". At that moment, the ground collapsed near the entrance of the silo, releasing two Hunter δ. Chris demanded that Wesker tell them what they were doing under the village, but Wesker ignored him and left, leaving Chris and Jill to fend off against the Hunters. They managed to get to the car and use a grenade launcher there to destroy the Hunters. Then they went off in pursuit of Wesker, who, they noted, headed for the village. Arriving at Anna's house, they found Wesker attempting to access a safe. Wesker explains that Umbrella set up multiple hangars all over the world and most of the village were Umbrella employees, and that that house was the house belonging to the person in charge of them, who collected data. Anna informed them that this was this house and that her father gave her a pendant. Wesker took it and used the pendant as a key to the safe. At this Chris, Jill, and Anna escaped, as the safe contained an explosive, meant for her protection. Chris and Jill discover from Anna that her father worked at a factory at a nearby chemical factory and that that factory is one of Umbrella's.

Chris and Jill joined a regional biohazard containment unit to storm this facility, which was believed to be housing a new type of B.O.W.. They were dropped off at the Caucasus Facility and they carried out a full-scale assault on it, destroying any of Umbrella's old Bio-Weapons encountered, and skillfully avoiding traps.

Eventually, they were confronted with a new experimental Bio-Weapon, codenamed t-A.L.O.S. Sergei Vladimirrevealed himself to be the creator and sealed Chris and Jill inside the t-A.L.O.S. containment room and activated the monster. Sergei taunted them, announcing that as fellow soldiers, Chris and Jill know the feeling of being alive in battle, before revealing T-A.L.O.S. as if to say no amount of battle experience is enough to defeat this new B.O.W..

Having no choice but to fight, Chris and Jill were successfully able to defeat t-A.L.O.S., finally ending Umbrella once and for all. After escaping the facility, Chris and Jill still lamented that Wesker was still out there. Though their troubles with Umbrella were over, it would only be a matter of time before they would be dealing with Wesker again. Unbeknownst to them, Wesker had actually infiltrated the same facility in order to take out Sergei Vladimir.

Resident Evil: Revelations[]

After Umbrella's collapse in 2003, it became clear that rogue researchers had succeeded in selling off company assets to the black market, with terrorist organizations and rival firms acquiring them. In response to this new threat, Chris and Jill helped co-found the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), dedicated to stopping the creation and usage of bio-weapons.

In 2005, a year after the infamous bioterrorist attack known as the Terragrigia Panic, the BSAA was informed about the resurrection of "Il Veltro", the bioterrorist organization that destroyed the aquapolis. In order to investigate this rumor, BSAA director Clive R. O'Brian sent Chris and his new partner, Jessica Sherawat, to a mountain range inValkoinen Mökki, Finland, where Veltro's hideout was rumoured to be located. Once in the area, however, Jessica and Chris suddenly lost contact with the BSAA headquarters, forcing the two to proceed with the mission without radio support.

In the meantime, Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani launched a rescue mission to the Mediterranean Sea to locate them. According to the last known coordinates issued by terminals, Jill and Parker learned that Chris and Jessica were somewhere in the ocean, possibly aboard a ship. This leads Parker and Jill to an investigation on the Queen Zenobia.

Arriving in the peak of the mountain, Chris and Jessica witness a terrible crash of a cargo plane nearby. Searching the crash site, they find traces of a virus along with the mauled corpse of the pilot, who was suspected to be a Veltro operative. Following a path, Chris and Jessica rushed through a mining area, a shortcut to the hideout. While in the caves, they were attacked by several mutant wolves infected with the t-Abyss virus, then still unknown. During the combat, Chris' leg was injured, but he was still able to defeat the Fenrir pack with the help of Jessica. By the end of the caves, Chris and Jessica finally discover an air base used by Il Veltro as a hideout. Soon after this, O'Brian finally managed to contact his agents after the communication problem, being informed that the Il Veltro's is active once again. Chris and Jessica also receive bad news: Jill and Parker have gone missing during the last operation to find them. Based on the Veltro's resurrection, it was possible that Parker and Jill were captured by these terrorists. Immediately, Chris and Jessica returned to headquarters, taking a chopper and setting of on another mission to find the Veltro's ghost ship. However, there was no further information about the cruise ship's current location.

Under Chris' suggestion, O'Brian sends operatives Keith Lumley and Quint Cetcham back to Valkoinen Mökki airport in order to find any data that should give the BSAA the exact coordinates of Queen Zenobia. This mission was accomplished, allowing Chris and Jessica to locate the cruise. Landing on the ship's deck, Chris and Jessica begin the search for their lost comrades, encountering hordes of mutants. However, they soon realize that this ship is actually the Queen Semiramis, a carbon-copy of Queen Zenobia. Revealing this mistake to O'Brian, Chris gets the actual location of Queen Zenobia. While approaching the Queen Zenobia in a boat, Chris and Jessica are attacked by an unknown sea monster, but they manage to frighten it off and ensure their entrance to the ship. Parker and Jill are finally encountered in the ship's Casino, where Jessica shoots an unarmed Veltro agent, much to Chris' surprise. The terrorist is killed, being revealed that he was in fact Raymond Vester, an FBC operative. After this, Chris partnered up with Jill again, heading to the ship's lab in order to stop the t-Abyss virus before it contaminates the sea, while Parker and Jessica search for a way to delay the Queen Zenobia sinking.

Once in the labs, Chris and Jill manage to neutralize the t-Abyss virus once and for all while their actions are monitored by Morgan Lansdale, the mastermind behind the Terragrigia Panic. While escaping the sinking ship, Jill and Chris find a wounded Parker (shot in the leg by Jessica, Morgan's mole). However, they were unable to save him from seemingly falling to his death, although Parker managed to survive. Outside of the Queen Zenobia, they are attacked by the same giant B.O.W. that Chris and Jessica fought, but they manage to destroy it with the help of Kirk Mathison.

However, the mission was not over yet. Director O'Brian came clean with Jill and Chris, telling all about the Veltro conspiracy orchestrated by himself. He also confirmed the existence of a third ship: Queen Dido. In order to retrieve a video that contain the proof of Morgan's schemes, Chris and Jill head for the Dido's remains beneath Terragrigia ruins, discovering that Jack Norman, leader of Il Veltrom is still alive inside the wreckage. Filled with vengeance against Morgan, Norman injected himself with the T-Abyss virus, becoming the powerful "Ultimate Abyss". During the fight, Chris and Jill are able to destroy the creature, retrieving Norman's PDA and revealing the truth about Terragrigia, causing Morgan's arrest and the decline of FBC.

In one of the files of Revelations, His sister, Claire and other survivors during the Harvardville Airport incident was mentioned (the scene takes place in the movie Resident Evil: Degeneration). Originally, Chris and the BSAA are dispatched to rescue them but they are replaced by the Marines including the SRT members Angela Miller and Greg Glenn and government agent Leon S. Kennedy and the latter knows that they can save them.

Resident Evil 5[]

In Resident Evil 5 and its updates, it also adds two scenarios within the game which is called "Lost in Nightmares" which takes place in 2006 where Chris and Jill had a mission to apprehend Ozwell E. Spencer in his estate and "Desperate Escape" which takes place after Jill is free from Wesker's control and being aided by Josh Stone to take down hordes of Majinis to escape while Chris and Sheva are trying to take down Wesker.

In 2006, Chris and Jill received a tip off from a reliable source detailing former Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer's location, and the pair intended to raid his hideout and arrest him for questioning.

Entering the estate, it was not long before they discovered the bodies of Spencer's bodyguards, who had already been brutally killed through "unconventional means". Both of them had to survive and endure numerous puzzles and traps built on the estate, whilst fighting off the multiple Guardians of Insanity which relentlessly pursued them throughout their mission. Whilst proceeding through the estate's gardens, they fell through an old bridge and landed in the sewers below, losing most of their equipment in the process. Defenseless, the agents relied solely on their wits to outsmart and eliminate the remaining Guardians of Insanity before making their escape from the sewer. When they arrived at the last hallway in the estate, they discovered more of his bodyguards horrifically murdered outside the entrance. When they opened the last door where Spencer could be hiding, they were greeted by Wesker, who had just killed Spencer a few minutes before they came in. A brief battle soon followed. Although the two put up a fight, both Chris and Jill were easily beaten by Wesker's super-human powers, and just as Wesker was about to deal the blow that would end Chris' life, Jill launched herself at Wesker, hurling the pair through the nearby window and into the chasm beyond the cliff the mansion was built upon. Chris could do nothing as he watched his partner fall to her death.

The BSAA conducted a three-month search for Jill's body, with no success. As a result, Jill Valentine was officially declared dead in the line of duty. For the next three years, Chris refused to believe that Jill had died, and put himself into every mission available, with the hope of finding some kind of lead to Jill's whereabouts. Chris eventually got wind of some rumors saying Jill was still alive, although he was never able to confirm the rumors until 2009.

Three years later, in 2009, Chris Redfield became possibly the most active and respected member of the BSAA, across all branches. He had participated in more missions than anyone else, and was responsible for their success. In March, during one of his investigations, Chris discovers an upcoming plan of a bioweapons deal that occurred in KAZ (Kijuju Autonomous Zone, or simply Kijuju), Africa. Chris was sent to Kijuju to arrest a Bio weapon dealer named Ricardo Irving. With the help of fellow BSAA member and new partner Sheva Alomar. Chris and Sheva arrived in the butcher shop and received the mission coordinates, equipment, and weapons from Reynard Fisher. They soon discovered that Kijuju was suffering from new and more advanced forms of Plaga, and were forced to take down hordes of vicious "Majini". In Kijuju's Public Assembly, Fisher is beheaded by the Executioner Majini, and a large number of Majini attempts to ambush Chris and Sheva. Fortunately, Kirk Mathison, the air-support, finds a way to put an end in the battle. They receive a radio call of Alpha Team being attacked by an unknown creature. They encountered a new type of B.O.W. that was responsible for the deaths of BSAA Alpha Team members. Not long afterwards, Kirk Mathison's helicopter crashes due to an attack from Kipepeo. When Chris arrives at the crash site, he and his partner fall into a trap of the Majinis. With the aid of other BSAA members such as Josh Stone and Dave Johnson they were able to survive through a variety of horrific dangers eventually coming into contact with Irving who evaded them with his partner, a mysterious cloaked woman. It was soon after that Chris came upon a file depicting a blonde girl who he recognized as being his old friend and partner, Jill Valentine. Irving is located by Chris and Sheva in the mining area of Kijuju, but a cloaked person manages to help him to escape. Chris checks the files that Irving left behind, leading them to an oil refinery, where Irving was hidden. Soon after, Irving released a B.O.W. Called Popokarimu. After destroying the monster, Chris and Sheva take a ride through the Savannah Fighting hordes of Majini on trucks. After dealing with them they arrive at an abandoned town that they find out a horrific creature destroyed, The B.O.W's name is Ndesu, After killing the beast Chris tell Sheva that he has to find jill and advises her to go back because they are working without orders now, Sheva declines Chris's Advice to stay behind and vows to stick with Chris till the end,After that they take a ride on a Motor Boat and passing through the Marshlands, After finding multiple emblems to escape the marshlands Chris and Sheva find Captain Stone and he aids them there journey to find Irving at the oil refinery.

Irving tried to kill Chris, Sheva and Josh by blowing up the oil refinery, but the BSAA agents managed to escape and confront Irving. In an ultimate effort to destroy Chris and Sheva, Irving injects himself with a sample containing the Dominant Species Plaga, which mutates Irving into a large Kraken like creature. Chris and Sheva are able to destroy the monster. Before his death, Irving told Chris that all answers he was looking for would be in the caves.

With Irving eventually taken down, Chris told Sheva that he only got involved in the mission so he could find Jill, who he suspected was still alive. Although surprised, Sheva vows to stick with Chris to the end. The duo discover a large area full of capsules used to store test subjects. Chris rushes to a monitor and searches for Jill. As theplatform they stood on raises to Jill's capsule, Chris and Sheva are attacked by a large creature known as U-8. This promptly stops the platform, forcing Chris and Sheva to fight back.

After its defeat, both are greeted to an empty capsule, and Excella Gionne via the monitor, who denies any knowledge of Jill. Sheva recognizes Excella as one of TRICELL's co-founders, and tells Chris she is lying. Later, they meet Excella again in a lab, where they come across a test subject, who then mutates into Uroboros Mkono. After defeating the monstrosity that resulted, they eventually tracked down Excella, who was accompanied by Albert Wesker, and a mysterious cloaked female acquaintance. Chris demands to know the whereabouts of Jill, and is stunned when Wesker removes the hood of his mysterious helper, who was none other than Jill herself. Despite Chris' attempts to bring her back to realization, he and Sheva are attacked and overwhelmed by her.

As Wesker prepares to leave, Chris manages to get through to Jill. Wesker, although surprised, activates a device that causes her extreme pain, and leaves Chris to watch her suffer. Sheva spotted a device on Jill's chest and helped Chris in forcefully removing it.

After Jill collapses, Chris rushes over to her and is relieved to find that she is alive and back to her senses. She apologizes for her actions and urges Chris to continue and stop Wesker before he can finish his preparations. Chris initially refuses, more concerned with getting Jill to safety. Jill grabs him and tells him that he is the only one capable of stopping Wesker. Chris backs into the elevator, and Jill tells Sheva to look out for him.

The pair find Excella, and she runs off in a panic, dropping a vial of something which Sheva keeps after Chris explains that it may be important if Excella wanted to guard it so badly. Later it soon becomes clear that Wesker has no loyalty to Excella when she is revealed to have been injected with the Uroboros virus, which consumes her. It attacks the two, though they are eventually able to defeat it, turning their sights to Wesker. It is then that Chris receives a call from Jill who explains that Wesker needs to inject himself with a serum to keep the virus inside of him stable, but overdosing it would weaken him. It is then that the two find out the vial Excella had dropped is the serum they need to inject Wesker with. After a very one sided battle with him, Chris and Sheva manage to take control briefly and inject the serum into Wesker's chest, causing him to flee onto his airship with Chris and Sheva in hot pursuit. Their fight continues in the cargo bay, before Chris interrupts Wesker's rant about being humanity's "savior" with another injection at the neck, labeling him as "just another one of Umbrella's leftovers." They manage to take advantage of his weakness and send him flying out of the cargo room but their advantage decreases when he grabs Sheva's leg in an attempt to take them down with him. Chris watches images of Jill rush through his mind as he remembers how he thought he had lost her trying to kill Wesker. He jumps to grab Sheva as she lets go in order to kill Wesker and sacrifice her own life just like Jill did, with Wesker determined to take both of them, but Sheva shoots him in the face and he is sucked from the plane. Crashing in a volcano, Chris and Sheva are shocked to find Wesker alive and angry. Puncturing a container of Uroboros, Wesker begins to mutate with it and attacks Chris and Sheva. They retreat, but the rocks they cross over break and they are separated. Sheva shouts to Chris to get higher so she can attack Wesker, who turns his attention towards her. Stranded, she shouted for help and Chris was forced to push a huge boulder out of the way so Sheva could join him. Wesker follows but Chris and Sheva are able make a final stand against him, After wounding Wesker and revealing his molten weak point Chris jumps on Wesker's back and grabs the Uroboros Tentacles and pries them off the weak point. Chris yells to Sheva to shoot the weak point but Sheva declines saying that it would kill Chris, Sheva decides to use her Knife and does continuous stabs at Wesker's weak point, As Wesker is stunned Chris jumps off his back and grabs his Machete and together with Sheva do one final stab at Wesker. and as Wesker stands injured, the ground beneath him begins to break and he slips into the lava. Jill and Josh arrive in a helicopter just in time to witness the scene and Jill throws down a rope ladder. Chris grabs it and Sheva starts to climb, but as Chris goes for it, the ground beneath him also breaks. He stumbles, and jumps for the ladder, catching it one handed. Sheva and Chris are helped into the helicopter only for Wesker to emerge from the lava and catch one of his tentacles onto the helicopter skids. Jill points to the two RPG-7's that were in the chopper. Chris and Sheva both take aim and fire, and Wesker is finally killed.

In the aftermath, Chris finally realized what he had been fighting for,and though he felt he had accomplished all that he had set out to do, he knew that it was only a matter of time before someone like Wesker showed up again. For this reason, Chris decided to go back to working in a team and pass on his knowledge and skills to a new generation for when that day finally came along.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2[]

After the incident in Kijuju, Chris and Barry finally had the time to catch up with each other, it was around this time that Chris requested Barry to join the BSAA. Eventually, Barry became an advisor for the organization as a combat consultant, training a young generation of soldiers alongside Chris to become the future of the BSAA. He also became friends with Chris' younger sister, Claire when they met each other is due to her strong friendship with his older daughter, Moira and later becomes a mentor to the Redfield siblings.

Chris was mentioned twice by his sister Claire (and other times the siblings didn't get along) when Moira complained about the times her father bossed her around. Claire responded, "My brother was like that growing up, too." In the epilogue however, Claire still cared for her older brother after she was informed by the BSAA member that he was in China. She then told Piers to take care of him.

Chris is also playable in Raid Mode in his Lanshiang attire in Resident Evil 6.

Resident Evil 6[]

Chris is playable in his story campaign along with his partner, Piers Nivans. His role in the story initially appears to be post-traumatic amnesia and a violent drunkard and later avenging his dead comrades against Carla Radames who poses as Ada Wong after recovering his memories during his mission in Lanshiang. He snaps out of his revenge-fueled rampage after his confrontation with Leon and resolves to stop Carla in the name of justice instead of revenge.

On December 24, 2012, Chris (now ranked as a Special Operations Unit Captain), Piers Nivans, and a group consisting of Ben Airhart, Carl Alfonso, Finn Macauley, and Andy Walker were dispatched into the Eastern European state of Edonia, where new B.O.W. species known as J'avo had been granted to the rebels in the midst of a civil war. After discussing their plan of attack, Chris provided words of encouragement to Finn, the rookie of the group, before moving out.

However, as they approached the point Two of Hearts, Chris and his team were ambushed by a troop of heavily armed J'avo, having their Armored Personnel Carries destroyed in the process. The situation became even worse when a massive Ogroman was suddenly released on the battlefield. As Chris and Piers faced the infected, Finn managed to use the remaining APC firepower to injure the giant creature, forcing it to flee.

After the conflict, Chris led his team to Edonia City Hall. Alpha Team was forced to another battle as an injured BSAA member was found in the middle of the bridge that connected the Two of Hearts section to City Hall. Redfield proceeded to rescue his fellow soldier, as Piers provided cover fire. With Finn's help, Chris managed to rescue the injured soldier. Having crossed the bridge with the Alphas, Chris ordered Finn to blow up the construction in order to stop the incoming group of J'avo.

Eventually, Chris and his squad came across D.S.O. operative Sherry Birkin, whom Chris recognized from Claire's stories, and mercenary Jake Muller, who Sherry was tasked with protecting. Introductions, however, were cut short when the group were attacked by a duo of Ogromen (one was dispatched by a helicopter as the other from the Two of Hearts section returned). Chris and his squad teamed up with Jake and Sherry to defeat the creatures, and brought in a helicopter to take Jake and Sherry to their destination. Before they departed, Chris, believing that Jake looked familiar, asked if they had met, but Jake responded in the negative.

After Making it to the City Hall, the group encountered numerous Chrysalids and a woman in a blue dress who was claiming to be Ada Wong who told them that the B.O.W.s including the J'avo are created by the C-Virus and an organization that was calling themselves Neo Umbrella are the ones that supplied the virus to the rebels. Though he was suspicious about her, Chris agreed to escort her out of the building only to fall into a trap. "Ada" cutted Chris and Piers off from the rest of the team and she trapped the other four in a cage before launching a Needle Bomb that infected Andy, Carl, Ben and Finn with the C-Virus.

Chris and Piers could only look on helplessly as their squadmates mutated into Chrysalids and they hatched into Napads which proceeded to attack. Chris was beaten senseless by the Napad that was once Finn Macauley and he had to be dragged to safety by Piers. The duo was saved by the BSAA support troops who killed their mutated comrades and an unconscious Chris was taken to a nearby hospital.

Upon regaining consciousness in the hospital, Chris suffered from post-traumatic amnesia, unable to remember who he was or what had occurred. However, wracked by an overwhelming and inexplicable guilt, Chris ran away from the hospital before anyone could come to check on him.

For the next six months, hoping to dull the pain, Chris became a moody and violent drunk, staying in a hotel and frequenting a bar in Eastern Europe, where the female bartender and patrons took to calling him "the stray dog" and gained a reputation as the bar's worst customer. Chris also made some money to fund his rent and bar tab by doing bodyguard work. All the while, Piers and the BSAA worked to track him down.

In June of 2013, Chris, now a mere shadow of his former self, was finally tracked down by Piers at the bar he frequented. When asked to leave by the bartender he responds that he has "nowhere to go", another patron stepped in to help her, only for Chris to snap and physically attack the man, nearly hitting him with a beer bottle before Piers stepped in. After expressing his disgust at how far Chris had fallen, Piers forced Chris to confront his past by showing him images of their deceased comrades and the tragedy in Edonia, to little avail. However, when Chris recognized the BSAA logo on Piers' jacket, all of the bar's patrons revealed themselves to be BSAA operatives in disguise, while Piers told Chris that he belonged with him and they were taking him back to duty by any means necessary.

Though still unable to recall the incident, Chris agreed to come back, and was quickly dispatched to Waiyip, in the Chinese province of Lanshiang, which was in the midst of another Neo Umbrella bioterror attack. The mission was to raid a building in the point Ace of Spades, where a few captured UN members had been held hostage by bioterrorists. Crossing the streets, Alpha Team immediately came into contact with J'avo, the same type of B.O.W. fought in Edonia. Approaching the Ace of Spades through the roofs, Chris and his squad managed to neutralize the incoming infected.

Once inside the building, the hostages were released. However, BSAA's HQ ordered an airstrike to the area, as Chris and Piers barely made it out alive. Upon seeing a cluster of Chrysalids, Chris finally recalled the Edonia incident, and, enraged, vowed to get revenge on "Ada" for the deaths of his men. On their way, a BSAA soldier was attacked by an invisible monster. Chris decided to chase the creature and put it down.

They soon encountered Jake and Sherry, who had gone missing since Edonia, and protected them from swarms of J'avo; however, when Piers suggested that they escort the two, Chris coldly reminded him of their mission and departed. Making their way through the slums of Waiyip's Poisawan district, they were attacked by the Iluzija, a massive snake B.O.W. with camouflage capabilities. The abomination brutally killed all of them, one by one, until only Piers, Marco Rose and Chris himself were left. With the assistance of his fellow soldiers, Chris managed to fry the monster using the building's electrical system. Unfortunately, "Ada" reappeared and shot Marco with a C-Virus-equipped dart before escaping. Marco rapidly mutated into a Gnezdo, forcing Chris and Piers to kill him.

Afterwards, when Chris expressed his frustration, Piers angrily told him that they could have prevented some of their squad's deaths if he hadn't been so focused on vengeance, and when he went so far as to accuse Chris of forgetting their mission and state that he felt sorry for "all the men who died believing in [him]," Chris snapped and they briefly came to blows, ending when Piers remarked that he was glad Finn wasn't around to see him like this. Nonetheless, they continued on.

Chris and Piers were later ambushed by a helicopter in the Waiyip river, though they managed to destroy the armored vehicle. Seeing "Ada" enter a warehouse, Chris and Piers entered in pursuit of her, unaware that Leon S. Kennedy and Helena Harper were doing the same. Though they managed to corner her, Leon arrived just in time and prevented Chris from shooting her, resulting in a brief fight between the two before they drew their guns on each other.

Leon told Chris that "Ada" was a key witness and that they needed her alive, while Chris shouted that "Ada" was the actual mastermind behind everything, only to be told by Leon that the real culprit was none other than national security advisor Derek C. Simmons. Though Chris told Leon that he lost all of his men because of "Ada," Leon replied that he lost over 70,000 people, including President Adam Benford, because of Simmons, and made it clear that he planned on defending "Ada" despite full knowledge of her allegiance to Neo Umbrella.

In the midst of the confrontation, "Ada" used a Flash Grenade to escape from the four. Chris and Piers began to pursue her, but Leon stopped Chris and told him that they both wanted the same thing. Finally snapping out of his revenge-fueled rampage, Chris resolved to stop "Ada" in the name of justice rather than vengeance, leaving it up to Leon and Helena to take care of Simmons.

Chris and Piers pursued "Ada" to the docks in a turret-equipped Jeep, managing to get on her freighter and corner her on the bridge, where "Ada" revealed her master plan: to spread the C-Virus all over the world and recreate the Raccoon City Incident on a global scale. However, just as she told them this, one of Simmons' henchmen arrived in a helicopter and promptly shot her in the chest, causing her to fall to her death. However, she left behind her suitcase, which contained a syringe full of an enhanced strain of the C-Virus.

Chris and Piers subsequently learned that a nearby ship was equipped with airburst missiles filled with the C-Virus in gas form, aimed right at the mainland. Hijacking a jet, they attacked the freighter, but were ultimately unable to stop the missile launch, which quickly turned most of the city of Tatchi's population into zombies. Afterwards, Chris was contacted by Leon, who requested that he save Jake and Sherry from their imprisonment in Neo Umbrella's underwater facility. During this conversation, Chris was shocked to discover that not only did Jake possess antibodies to the C-Virus, he was Albert Wesker's son.

Making their way to the facility, Chris decided to retire from active duty after they rescued Jake and Sherry and passed his position on to Piers. When they met up with them, Chris revealed that he was the one who killed Jake's father, leading to a tense moment in which Jake held him at gunpoint. Chris admitted that he had every right to shoot him, but Jake managed to stop himself, telling Chris that there were more important things at stake than the two of them.

On their way out, however, the ultimate B.O.W. HAOS, which was meant to spread the C-Virus all over the world as Carla intended, hatched from its cocoon and attacked. As Jake and Sherry made their escape, Chris and Piers remained behind to destroy HAOS. During the fight, HAOS severely damaged the facility and managed to grab a hold of Chris, while Piers suffered a severe injury that crippled his right arm. With no other way to save Chris, Piers deliberately injected himself with the C-Virus strain they had previously procured, gaining the ability to shoot electrical blasts. Now fully regenerated, HAOS broke out of its chrysalis and attacked the two agents. However, its decreased size and vulnerability allowed Piers to shoot electrical attacks that enabled Chris to equip his combat knife and attack its vulnerable organs which badly damaged the creature. It made a final attempt to kill Piers but Chris was able to rescue him and the two of them destroyed the B.O.W.s remaining organ, supposedly killing it.

Though Chris repeatedly reassured Piers that he would be all right and they would get out of there as they made their way to the escape pods, Piers, realizing that he would eventually lose control and mutate completely, deliberately shut Chris into an escape pod alone and launched him out, remaining behind to die with the facility.

However, HAOS had recovered and attacked Chris' escape pod in the water, only to be electrocuted and finally destroyed by an electrical blast from Piers' transformed arm just before the facility exploded. The following morning, Chris was rescued by the BSAA.

Chris continued to serve in the BSAA as a field Captain, deciding to honor Piers' memory by turning down his retirement. At one point, he went back to the same bar he routinely visited in June, though now able to remember his identity and having overcome his drinking problem. A BSAA soldier under his command interrupted his meal, informing him that HQ had new orders for them.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard[]

Shortly before July 2017, Blue Umbrella asked the BSAA to send Chris for assistance for the upcoming missions in Dulvey, Louisiana which he begrudgingly accepted as he didn't fully trust them. The mission’s goal was to apprehend Lucas Baker who was a suspected associate of the criminal organization that was called the Connections who was in possession of the Mold bioweapon.

Just as his unit arrived at the Baker residence, they witnessed the B.O.W. that was known as Eveline in her mutated form erupt from the house and attack a civilian named Ethan Winters. Chris’ team assisted Ethan by dropping him an Albert-01 handgun that was loaded with Ramrods to finish the monster off. After the battle, Chris had Ethan and his wife named Mia evacuated via helicopter.

Chris continued his operation by looking for a missing unit of three soldiers in the salt mine while he was pursuing Lucas. Although Chris found the first missing soldier, he was attacked by Lucas who attached a plastic explosive to Chris’ arm shortly before detonating another explosive which killed the hostage. Instead of turning back to remove the bomb, Chris decided to move forward as he refused to let Lucas escape. After HQ confirmed Lucas' relationship with the Connections, he boldly proceeded through the mines in search of the other two operatives, Throughout Chris’ exploration, he encountered the WM series of Molded and he located the other two missing operatives. However, Lucas killed them through his traps and he setted the timer off on Chris’ bomb. With HQ’s help, Chris found the liquid nitrogen to freeze the bomb and dispose of it.

HQ suggested to Chris that he should check a shield door. Once he was inside, Lucas locked Chris in and he setted it on fire. Unknown to Lucas, Chris was able to survive the trap and Umbrella intercepted his email to an unidentified buyer which informed them that he was about to send the data which Chris had to prevent it from happening. As he had the element of surprise, Chris caught up to Lucas, but he was jumped by him and attacked with a knife which forced Chris to shoot him by inadvertently triggering Lucas' mutation into a large monster. This meant that Chris had no choice, but to kill him. After a short battle, Chris was able to eliminate Lucas once and for all by shooting Lucas' hard drives up to prevent the data transfer and being called back to Umbrella's local base camp.

At an undisclosed time, Ethan requested that Chris should search for Zoe Baker in the hopes of saving her. Weeks later, Chris responded to Umbrella’s forces that are calling for backup at a base that they setted up in front of the mansion. His team arrived to find out that the unit was wiped out, but Zoe was safe with her uncle named Joe Baker. After moving everyone to a lab tent, Chris called Ethan to inform him about Zoe's rescue and he handed the phone to her so the two could reconnect.

Resident Evil: Village[]

After becoming distrusting and more critical about the BSAA after the Dulvey Incident for the organization’s cover up of the incident and not eliminating Eveline in Munich, Chris spent three years by chasing the insane bioweapon named Miranda down who planned to use the Mold for her own plans. This putted the Winters family in danger as Miranda was targeting Rosemary Winters who was believed to be an improved version of Eveline. After discovering that Miranda swapped places with Mia Winters, Chris believed that Ethan may be comprised and keeping Rose safe was paramount. Chris broke in with the BSAA’s Hound Wolf Squad and he shot the imposter Mia in the head five times. He refused to answer Ethan's questions and he knocked him out for transfer.

However, Chris learned that things went pear-shaped as Miranda turned out to be alive and she overturned the convoy and she killed the men by taking Rosemary Winters into the village. After infiltrating it, Chris made his top priority to get Rose back and he ran into Ethan several times who was fighting the family lords and ladies that are obeying Miranda. Ethan first ran into Chris while they are setting a research post up near Moreau's Reservoir. He is surprised by how far that he made it. Ethan angrily exclaims that he killed Mia and he should have just killed him to finish his job. A member comes out by informing Chris that they are getting serious motion readings and he suggests that they should move on by fearing that Miranda knows that they are here. When Ethan hears her name, he demands Chris to tell him how they were involved, but he rejects by saying that he should leave it alone and it was way out of his depth. They noticed that the mutated fish was heading their way. Chris demands Ethan to stay out of their business, but before he can answer, the creature attacks and Chris pushes Ethan to safety before it separates the two.

After Ethan is dropped to the bottom level by Karl Heisenberg, he is alerted by the noises and he is subdued and disarmed by Chris who infiltrated the factory and he is in the middle of planting the explosives beneath it. Chris told him to stay away, but Ethan angrily exclaims that he killed Mia, but Chris starts to explain that the Mia that he shot was not the real Mia, but it was Miranda. Chris explained the situation to Ethan who he fixed and upgraded Heisenberg's self propelled artillery to take Heisenberg out. In the meantime, he setted the explosives up to take the factory along with the creatures that are inside out. After explaining, Chris tosses him his phone by asking him to look at the pictures. In one of the pictures was Miranda having the possession of all of the 4 flasks and Chris' men are still monitoring the situation. Chris promises Ethan that they will get his daughter back. Chris asks him to stay under the radar.

Ethan was called by Chris who heard an intensive explosion from above resulted from Ethan's battle with Heisenberg. He informs him that he killed Karl and he is going take Rose back from Miranda. Chris tells him not to go without him and he tells him to wait, but he fails as Ethan is killed at Miranda’s hands.

A member of the Hound Wolf Squad confirms Ethan's death to Chris. He tells the others that he and his team were careless in disposing the fake Mia and they didn't actually kill her as Miranda plays dead as a corpse. He orders the men to take Ethan and Rose in fear that Miranda could have infected him with the Mold. The vehicle that they were transported on was attacked. When he got there, the Winters were gone. When he last contacted Ethan, he heard Miranda's voice and Chris is determined to avenge Ethan. He reminisced about the mission and it’s three years attempt to put it to the ground. He notices that the BSAA already got here and he orders the men to terminate Miranda and save Rose except with Canine who was ordered to investigate what the BSAA were doing here. Chris heads off to destroy the Mold Root and he orders everyone to eliminate the bioweapons. He manages to reach the target with the use of support fire from Lobo. He attaches an N2 bomb with a knife and throws it up to the Mold Root. Chris orders his men to have eyes on Miranda, but keep their distance as he heads to Miranda's lab. Chris is told that they should have informed Ethan about their plan sooner, but he responds that there wasn't any time and he didn't expect Miranda to act so soon. Inside her lab, he learns all of the information regarding her involvement in making Eveline and Spencer's connection with her. Chris finds Mia. After fearing that she was Miranda, he asks Umber Eyes to confirm Miranda's location. She is still at the ceremony site. Chris is relieved that the real Mia is still alive. Mia demanded to know about Ethan and Rose. He informed her about Ethan's death, but he promised that he could still save Rose. Mia told Chris that Ethan wasn't gone yet and she was trying to keep it a secret as he didn't know how special that Ethan truly was.

After seeing that their surroundings aren't safe, he places her in his escape helicopter. After learning that Miranda was about to conduct a ceremony with the Mold on Rose, Chris tried to keep Ethan away from the child's sake, but an already fatally wounded Ethan ignored him and he fought Miranda. After Miranda was killed, Chris tried to help Ethan leave. However, Ethan knew that it was too late for him and he had Chris promise to help raise Rose to be strong. After returning to his escape helicopter, Chris gave Rose to Mia and he watched the explosion from a safe distance away by grieving Ethan's sacrifice. While they are in their helicopter, Chris painfully revealed to Mia that Ethan sacrificed himself for them. After that, one of the Hound Wolf Squad members discovered that the body of the BSAA soldier in their aircraft was a BOW which was a mutant that was sent by the organization that was founded to fight biological weapons of mass destruction. Because of the disturbing implications of this, Chris decided for their helicopter to change course straight for the BSAA's headquarters in Europe to get to the bottom of things.

Years later, Chris kept his promise to Ethan by helping to raise Rose to be strong and train her in using her powers though Rose kept some abilities secretly from him.

Resident Evil: Marhawa Desire[]

In the manga, which takes place in 2012 before the events in Edonia on his campaign in Resident Evil 6, Chris Redfield and his new partners, Piers Nivans and Merah Biji went to Bennett University to look for Professor Doug Wright after they heard him involved in a bioterror attack in Singapore. Unknown to them, Doug had already gone to Singapore, to an isolated school named Marhawa Academy to deal with a new and unknown bioterror attack.

The three attempted to contact him, as did Doug, who desperately asked the academy's headmaster Gracia Delenikas to allow help from outside (BSAA) to come. But Gracia's disagreement made him unable to contact Chris and his team. Later, Chris met a person who claimed to be a parent of a student in Marhawa, asking them to look for his daughter there for not keeping communication with the man.

Unwilling to wait any longer, Chris and his partners decided to visit the academy, whether Gracia liked it or not. But it was too late; the entire school has fallen into chaos, with zombies rampant throughout the academy. As Piers and Merah went to annihilate the zombies, Chris found the only survivors; Doug and his nephew Ricky Tozawa. The two found a letter from Gracia that an evacuation helicopter can be reached through the underground maintenance tunnels.

Chris brought Ricky to the aforementioned location with Piers, but Merah chose not to come with them, due to her current objective to apprehend the mutated Bindi Bergara, who was suspected as the attack's perpetrator. Chris advised her that they won't be able to bring down Bindi for now and she must retreat, but Merah disobeyed Chris's order by disabling her radio and fought Bindi.

BIOHAZARD Heavenly Island[]

In the manga which took place in 2014 after Resident Evil 6, Chris received a call from Claire to help her deal against the B.O.W.s that she encountered at the Sonido de Tortuga Island. Due to the conflicts from his other missions, he dispatched the South American BSAA agents that are led by Parker Luciani to rescue her and Inez Diaco. After the incident, Claire reported to Chris about her findings on the incident as she was hopeful that Sonido de Tortuga may be able to recover from the tragedy that they faced.

This incident is the same year as in the New York City outbreak in the film, Resident Evil: Vendetta and the main reason he dispatched Parker and his group of BSAA agents to rescue his sister and the other survivors in the Sonido de Tortuga island due to his mission to take down Glenn Arias who is a weapons dealer and a bio terrorist who caused a zombie outbreak in New York City using the A-Virus.

Resident Evil: Vendetta[]

In 2014 which is a year after the events of Lanshiang and it was the same year after the Sonido de Tortuga Island incident, Redfield was brought in to supervise a sting by the Mexican government against wanted weapons dealer Glenn Arias, rumored to be in possession of B.O.W.s and to rescue missing BSAA operative Kathy White and her son, Zack, who had both vanished in the midst of pursuing Arias.

Upon arriving at a seemingly abandoned mansion in Querétaro, Redfield and the team were ambushed by hordes of zombies, including Zack, before Redfield witnessed a strange new mutation from a bitten soldier. Forced to retreat, Redfield jumped out of a window on the second floor of the mansion, only to come face to face with Arias. As Redfield was badly injured due to the fall, Arias quickly disarmed Redfield and was able to overpower him in hand-to-hand combat before introducing the now-zombified Kathy, who seemed to only attack Redfield, while avoiding Glenn and his allies. While Redfield was soon rescued by a BSAA unit, he swore revenge against Arias, devastated by the loss of the unit. His mission to stop Arias soon brought him and his team to New York City, where he rescued Rebecca Chambers from an outbreak of the same virus from Mexico. Rebecca explained that the mysterious virus contained traits similar to the Plaga parasite used by Los Iluminados, leading Redfield to take her in order to meet Leon in Colorado.

Redfield argued with a drunk and defeated Leon to ask for his help, as Rebecca managed to convince Leon to provide some intel about the Los Iluminados. Patricio, the man who sold Leon's unit, arrives just in time and is interrogated by Redfield and Leon. Suddenly, Maria Gomez and Diego Gomez attacked them. Rebecca is kidnapped in the process, and a mortally wounded Patricio dies after telling Leon to protect his family. As the new threat outcomes, threatening the lives of New York populace and Rebecca himself, Leon agrees to join Redfield in his mission to bring down Arias.

After that, Arias unleashes a horde of zombies to deal with Redfield but it ends up being a failed attempt. During this battle, Redfield proficiently made use of his marksman and hand-to-hand combat skills, completely annihilating the first horde of the infected before the arrival of Leon S. Kennedy. Redfield then made his way to the laboratory where Rebecca was being held, killing two mercenaries and confronting Diego in the process. Redfield sustained two heavy blows from Diego but managed to come out on top thanks to a flame grenade he used as a last resort. He then proceeded to threaten the doctor with his Beretta 93R who quickly spilled the beans about the location of the vaccine.

After learning what he needed to know, Redfield grabbed Rebecca and carried her up to the rooftop, only to be surprised by Glenn Arias who was monitoring Redfield's progress through his cameras. Both men proceeded to open fire on each other but failed to land a clean hit due to both of them being in a cover position. Redfield then took the initiative to leave his cover position and confront Arias. As soon as they came face to face, they engaged in a close quarters battle that involved both a gunfight and hand-to-hand combat.

Redfield leads his platoon to New York City, briefing his mission objectives to his unit: stop the virus spreading in the city, rescue Rebecca and eliminate Arias. As they departed in the city, Redfield and Leon took an armored Humvee and a Ducati, respectively, both vehicles provided by the BSAA. The two battle their way to Arias, blowing the trucks with the virus inside. During the attack, Damien is killed by a pair of Cerberus. Leon leads the dogs away in his motorcycle as Redfield rushes to Arias' base. Entering the hideout, Redfield is contacted by Arias who tells him about the improved A-Virus strain Rebecca was recently infected with and even asks Redfield if he has the courage to put her down if it ever comes to it.

The fight revolved around both of them dodging each other's bullets, performing takedowns, disarms and even using their hand-to-hand combat skills. Notable features from Redfield were his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo takedowns and how he proficiently disarmed Arias at point blank range. At some point, Arias managed to grab a hold of Redfield's combat knife and they both engaged in a Filipino/Kali knife fighting sequence with Arias in the offensive position and Redfield in the defensive, Redfield eventually managed to disarm Arias by applying a shoulder block takedown. After that, they landed on a glass roof thanks to Redfield's shoulder block but Arias reverted the situation with a bodyslam which made him fall on top of Redfield but was instantly repelled by a knee strike from Redfield.

They instantly got up to their feet and proceeded to face each other in pure hand-to-hand combat. Arias was able to get the upper hand for a few seconds by landing a few punches on Redfield but that still wasn't enough to defeat Redfield who quickly outlined that unfavorable situation and applied a Sumi Gaeshi Judo throw, causing Arias to go through the glass and falling to his inevitable death. After winning the fight against Arias, Redfield made his way back to Rebecca and told her that she was going to be fine because he was going to find the vaccine.

However, Diego approached Arias in his dying state and triggered his final stage and both of them became one, resulting in a Tyrant-like mutation. The creature ambushed Redfield while he was carrying Rebecca but the captain was unable to avoid its grasp due to being extremely tired from the fights against both Diego and Arias. Lucky for him, Leon appeared and saved his life and eventually managed to get the creature's attention while Redfield went to look for the vaccine to save Rebecca. Leon was unable to be a match for the creature despite successfully dodging its attacks at the beginning of the encounter. However, the creature grabbed a hold of Leon just like it did with Redfield but the agent was saved by the BSAA member Nadia who shot the mutant with a railgun. The creature then turned its attention to the aircraft and attacked it. As a last resort, Leon used the Ducati in an attempt to finish off Ariego but that merely slowed it down and the creature still lived but, lucky for everyone, Redfield appeared at the nick of time and shot a grenade at the creature's heart, obliterating it completely.

After yet another successful mission, Redfield, Leon, Rebecca, Nadia, and DC proceeded to spread the vaccine around New York, curing the recently infected citizens who then turned back to normal. In the end, they all smiled back at each other and the New York City bioterrorist attack was over with the majority of the city's population being saved.
